Bullet vibrators and vibrating eggs: which to choose and how to use them

Updated October 10, 2026

A bullet vibrator is the smallest vibrator there is: a cylinder of roughly six to twelve centimetres that fits in the palm of your hand and is used on the outside, on the clitoris, the nipples or the perineum. A vibrating egg has the same kind of motor in a different shape: it goes into the vagina, stays there and is run from a remote or an app. That is why the two are usually sold together, even though they are used very differently. This guide explains the difference, what to check before you buy and which models we stock, with their real specifications.

Bullet or egg: the difference

A bullet is held in the hand or rests between two bodies. Its tip concentrates the vibration on a small point, which makes it very precise on the clitoris. Many people also use one inside other toys: some cock rings and plugs have a slot for a bullet, so one motor does several jobs.

An egg is made to stay inside. It is oval, the pelvic floor muscles hold it, and a flexible cord or antenna stays outside to pull it out. Because you do not touch it, nearly every egg is remote controlled, and that is the point: the other person holds the remote. That is why eggs sit under remote control eggs, while bullets are under bullet and egg vibrators.

What to check before you buy

  • Size: diameter matters more than length. A 1.9 cm bullet fits anywhere; a 3.5 cm egg is felt more inside and stays put more easily.
  • Material: silicone is soft, non-porous and easy to clean. ABS plastic is hard and passes the vibration on more sharply.
  • Power: magnetic USB charging is the most convenient. AA or AAA batteries have a real advantage: any shop sells a spare, and you need no charger when travelling.
  • Water resistance: IPX6 copes with jets of water and the shower; IPX7 can go under water, in the bath for example.
  • Control: a radio remote works without a phone and reaches about ten to twelve metres. A Bluetooth app has a similar range; apps with a long distance mode work over the internet, from anywhere.

The Dara is the cheapest way in: ten functions, magnetic charging and shower-proof for €11.95. The Teken is one piece of liquid silicone and bends, so it follows the body better than a rigid bullet. The Fiora has two layers of silicone, is quiet according to the manufacturer and can go under water. Fun Factory's Jam runs on one AA battery with no charger and has a textured tip. Satisfyer's Ultra Power Bullet 8 combines twelve programmes, five speeds plus seven rhythms, a whisper function and control through the Satisfyer Connect app.

The Drops is the smallest with USB charging and the one we suggest to start with: 6.5 cm, soft silicone, ten functions and a remote that reaches twelve metres. Lovetoy's iJoy is longer and reaches ten metres. IntoYou's NexEgg swaps the remote for an app, with dual layer silicone and USB-C charging; the manufacturer gives ten metres of stable range. The Yuesi has two small eggs on one remote, twenty functions and up to 140 minutes on batteries. Prices as of October 2026; the current price is always on the product page.

If you want an egg that can be run from another country, there are models with a long distance app under app and remote vibrators and in our selection of Lovense alternatives.

How to use a bullet vibrator

Start at the lowest setting and over your underwear: a bullet's vibration is concentrated and you feel it strongly. Then directly on the clitoris, slightly to one side or around it, with a little water-based lubricant. If the area goes numb after a while, that is normal with such fast vibration: pause for a moment or move somewhere else.

With a partner, a bullet lies between both bodies in missionary or is held on the clitoris from behind. If you want a broader, less pinpoint sensation, look at air pulse toys or a wand.

How to use a vibrating egg

Put lubricant on the egg, insert it with the cord facing out and push it in as far as feels comfortable, usually just a few centimetres. The pelvic floor muscles hold it on their own. Switch it on at a low setting before you leave the house, to check that the remote responds and the battery is charged.

To take it out, relax the muscles and pull slowly on the cord, never force the egg out with your fingers. A vibrating egg is not an anal toy: only a toy with a flared base is safe in the anus. If that is where you want to start, read anal play for beginners first.

An egg does not replace Kegel balls for pelvic floor training, even if they look alike. The differences are in our guide to love balls and Kegel balls.

Cleaning, charging and storage

Wash the bullet or egg after every use with warm water and mild soap or a toy cleaner, with particular care where the cord joins the egg. Even if it is waterproof, dry the charging contacts before you plug it in. Store silicone toys separately and take the batteries out if a toy will not be used for weeks.

Frequently asked questions

What is a bullet vibrator?

A small cylinder shaped vibrator, about six to twelve centimetres long, made mainly for the clitoris and other external areas. Its vibration is concentrated and precise, and many bullets also fit into cock rings or plugs with a slot.

Can I wear a vibrating egg outside the house?

Yes, that is what remote eggs are for. Wear close-fitting underwear, check the battery before you go out and agree on a signal to stop. On a low setting it is hardly audible; on the highest setting, somewhere quiet, it can be heard.

How far does the remote of a vibrating egg reach?

The radio remotes of our models reach ten to twelve metres, according to the manufacturers. Bluetooth apps have a similar range; to play from another city you need an app with a long distance mode.

Can I use a vibrating egg anally?

No. An egg has no base and can disappear into the rectum. In the anus, use only toys with a flared base, such as a plug.

Bullet vibrator or air pulse toy?

A bullet vibrates on one point and can be moved, held and put into other toys. An air pulse toy stimulates without touching, with pressure waves, and many people find it more intense. If you have never used a toy, a bullet is the cheapest and most versatile way in.
