Sensual massage is the slow way in: twenty minutes of hands on a back, a scent in the room and nothing expected yet. The products here are the ones that make it work, massage oils and candles, warming gels, body powders with a feather, massage tools and the wands that are as good on shoulders as anywhere else. This guide explains what to use for which kind of massage, how to give one that is actually good, and the two rules about oil that matter afterwards.
What to use
Oil for a long, gliding massage of the back, legs and arms: it does not dry, it warms with the hands and it leaves skin soft. A massage candle for the same with a scent in the room and warm oil poured from the tin. A warming gel for hands and breath to heat, best on small areas. A body powder and a feather for a dry, light, teasing massage that leaves no residue. A wand massager for deep pressure on shoulders and thighs, and for what comes after.
Giving a good one
Warm the room and the oil. Start broad and slow, whole hands, long strokes along the muscle, and keep contact with the skin throughout; the moment hands leave the body, the spell breaks a little. Work the back, shoulders and legs before anything else, and spend longer than feels necessary. Pressure should be firm on large muscles and light on the inside of arms and thighs. Ask, once, early, what feels good, then stop asking.
Tools
Massage rollers, stones and gloves spread pressure and give the hands a rest. A wand on low is the best massage tool in the shop for tight shoulders. Feathers and ticklers are for the other end of the scale, the lightest possible touch.
The rules about oil
Oil damages latex, so anything that will involve a condom needs the oil washed off first, or kept away from where the condom goes. Oil coats and degrades silicone toys, so wash hands before reaching for one. Oil marks sheets; put a towel down.
Frequently asked questions
Which oil for a first massage?
An unscented or lightly scented plant oil, sweet almond or jojoba, in a pump bottle. Cheap, gentle and it does everything.
Oil or candle?
A candle for the ritual and the scent; oil for more of it and more control. Both give warm oil on skin.
How long should a massage last?
Longer than you think: twenty minutes on the back alone before anywhere else. The slowness is the point.
Can the massage lead straight to sex?
Yes, and that is usually the idea; wash oily hands before condoms or silicone toys, and switch to a lubricant for anything internal.
What if my hands get tired?
Use the forearms and the heel of the hand on large muscles, a roller or a wand for pressure, and a feather when the hands need a rest.
