Thrusting Vibrators
These move instead of only buzzing. Fun Factory pulsators push and pull without any motor noise giving you away, which is exactly why they cost what they cost. A thrusting toy does something a vibrator cannot: it repeats a movement your hand gets tired of, at a rhythm you can keep for as long as you want. The stroke length is the number that matters and hardly anyone prints it, so read what we write rather than the box: a short, fast stroke is closer to a vibration, a long slow one feels like something else entirely. Hold it rather than letting it work alone, because these are heavier than they look, and use a generous water-based lubricant since the shaft is moving against you rather than with you.

IntoYou Sex Machine Vibration, Thrusting and Heat
A thrusting vibrator moves in and out on its own. Where an ordinary vibrator buzzes in one place, a thruster has a shaft that extends and retracts, a few centimetres at a time, at a pace you set, so the toy does the stroke while you stay still or do something else with your hands. This guide explains how the two mechanisms work, what to look for, and how to use one without the surprises a moving toy can bring.
Two ways of thrusting
Pulsators, the Fun Factory type, have a weight inside that swings back and forth and moves the whole toy with it: no part of the shaft telescopes, the toy itself rocks in and out, and it is quiet and comfortable. Telescoping thrusters have a shaft section that slides out and back, driven by a motor in the base: a longer, more definite stroke, more noise, and more power needed, so they are bigger. Both usually add vibration and a heating function.
Length, stroke and width
Look at three numbers: insertable length, the stroke, which is how far the shaft moves, usually 1.5 to 4 centimetres, and the width. A long stroke feels more like sex; a short one is subtler and easier to keep in place. Widths run from 3.5 centimetres upward and most people should start under 4.
Using it
Use more lubricant than for a vibrator, because the toy moves against the body on every stroke, and reapply. Start on the slowest speed with the toy fully inserted to find the depth, then increase. A thruster on a suction cup base or a stand works hands free; a handheld one is steadied with a light grip, not pushed. If the stroke hits something it should not, stop and change the angle rather than the speed.
Noise and power
Moving parts are louder than a vibration motor; the pulsators are quietest, the telescoping toys the loudest. Batteries last an hour or so of thrusting, less at full speed, so charge before, not during.
Care
Water based lubricant only. Wash with warm water and mild soap and keep the charging port dry; a telescoping shaft has a seam that needs rinsing carefully so lubricant does not build up inside.
Frequently asked questions
Does it really feel like sex?
The stroke is real, so yes, more than a vibrator does. It is still a toy: the rhythm is fixed until you change it, and it does not respond to you.
Pulsator or telescoping?
Pulsator for quiet, comfort and a toy that flexes with the body; telescoping for a longer, harder stroke and a base to mount it on.
Can it be used anally?
Only a thruster with a flared base and a shaft made for it. The stroke needs room, so a modest length and plenty of lubricant, and never hands free anally until you know how it behaves.
Why does it stall?
Too much pressure against the shaft, or a nearly flat battery. Ease the grip, charge it, and the stroke comes back.
Is a thruster good as a first toy?
It is a lot of toy to learn on. A first vibrator or dildo first, then a thruster once you know your depth and angle.
