This category holds the practical things: protection, care products and everything that keeps the rest of your collection clean. None of it is exciting to buy and all of it decides how the rest works.
Condoms and size
Fit matters more than brand. The nominal width printed on the box is the flat width of the condom, and for most people it sits between 52 and 56 millimetres. A condom that slips is too wide, one that pinches or rolls back is too narrow.
Latex free versions in polyisoprene or polyurethane exist for latex allergies and conduct warmth better. Check the expiry date, store the box away from heat and never carry one loose in a wallet for months. Never use two condoms at once, since the friction between them makes tearing more likely, and never use an oil based product with latex.
Massage oils and candles
A massage candle burns at a much lower temperature than a normal candle, so the melted oil can be poured onto skin. Pour from a low height onto a fleshy area, test it on your own wrist first and keep it away from the face.
Massage oils are for the outside of the body. They are not lubricants, they weaken latex condoms and most are not meant for internal use.
Toy cleaners and hygiene
Non porous materials, silicone, glass, steel and ABS, only need warm water and a mild unscented soap. A dedicated toy cleaner is faster, leaves no residue and is worth having for toys with a motor that cannot be rinsed thoroughly.
Wash before and after every use, dry with a lint free cloth and store each toy separately. Porous materials such as TPE need to dry completely and cannot be sterilised, which is why they should not be shared without a condom.
Bath and body
Shower gels, bath products and intimate washes for this part of the body should be mild and lightly scented at most. The vulva is self cleaning, so soap belongs on the outside only. Anything strongly perfumed is a common cause of irritation.
Frequently asked questions
How do I choose a condom size?
Measure the circumference of the erect penis and divide it by two: that gives the nominal width in millimetres you need. Most people land between 52 and 56 mm. A good fit feels snug without pinching and does not slide. A condom that is too large can slip off, and one that is too small is uncomfortable.
Can I use massage candle wax on skin?
Yes, if the product is made as a massage candle: it melts at a low temperature into a warm oil. Let it burn for a few minutes, blow it out, test a drop on your wrist and pour from close to the skin. Stay away from the face and broken skin, and never use an ordinary candle.
Do I really need a toy cleaner?
Warm water and a mild, unscented soap are enough for most toys. A toy cleaner is quicker, rinses off easily and is especially handy for toys with a motor that cannot be submerged. Clean every toy before and after use, and let it dry completely before you put it away in a pouch or box.
How should I store toys between uses?
Clean, completely dry and separate, in a cotton pouch or a box. Keep them away from heat and direct sunlight. Soft silicone or TPE toys pressed against each other for months can react and leave marks. Charge rechargeable toys every few months, even when you are not using them, to keep the battery healthy.
Is massage oil safe with condoms and toys?
No, oil and latex do not mix: oil weakens latex condoms and can make them tear. Oil can also damage silicone and TPE toys. Use massage oil for the massage, wash your hands, and switch to a water-based lubricant when things move on. A water-based massage gel works for both, so you do not have to switch.
