Lingerie accessories are the pieces that finish an outfit or stand in for one: stockings and hold ups, garter belts, gloves, chokers, body chains, nipple covers, pasties and the little things that make a set look intended rather than assembled. Most cost little, all of them change how a piece of lingerie reads, and some, a pair of stockings, a body chain, work on their own. This guide explains what each does, how to fit and fasten it, and how to keep the delicate ones intact.
Stockings and hold ups
Stockings need a garter belt or suspenders; hold ups have a silicone band at the top that grips the thigh on its own. Hold ups are simpler and stay up on most legs; stockings with a belt are the classic look and stay up on every leg. Sizes go by height and weight on the packet; sheer denier under 20 for the look, 40 and up for something that survives an evening. Fishnet forgives everything.
Garter belts and suspenders
A garter belt sits on the waist or hips with four or six straps that clip to the stocking top; six straps hold better than four. Wear the belt under the knickers, not over, so the knickers come off without the stockings. The clips fasten by pushing the stocking over the button and sliding the loop down.
Gloves, chokers and chains
Opera gloves to the elbow or above change the whole silhouette and are the accessory people forget. A choker or a wide velvet band reads as a collar without saying so. Body chains drape over the torso or hips and work over bare skin or lingerie; they are sized by adjustable clasps. Nipple covers and pasties are worn under sheer pieces or alone, held by a reusable adhesive that washes off.
Fit
Stockings by height and weight; garter belts by waist or hip measurement, with straps that adjust in length; gloves by hand width; chains by their adjustment range. Underwear and hosiery cannot be returned once opened, so check the size chart before ordering.
Care
Hand wash hosiery in cool water and dry flat; a snag is permanent, so keep nails and jewellery away and store stockings in the packet. Garter belts and gloves hand wash. Wipe chains and dry them so they do not tarnish. Rinse the adhesive of pasties with warm water and let it dry face up to restore the tack.
